Barry G. Porter is a graduate of the William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawai`i. Mr. Porter began his legal career in 1994 by serving as a law clerk for a Circuit Court judge in Honolulu. After working in the court, Mr. Porter focused his legal career on criminal defense and constitutional law.

Mr. Porter worked as a criminal defense attorney for seven years in Honolulu, Hawai`i, until he was asked to head the Maui Public Defender's Office in 2000.  While in Hawai`i Mr. Porter successfully litigated over 50 criminal jury trials and hundreds of motions asserting his client's constitutional rights. He obtained full acquittals for his clients in murder trials and dozens of other serious felony charges.

In 2004, Mr. Porter relocated to New Mexico and joined the felony division of the New Mexico Public Defender office. His jury trial successes in New Mexico include jury verdict wins in aggravated batteries, homicides, and numerous drug trafficking and sexual assault cases.

In 2010, Mr. Porter became the Training Director for the New Mexico Public Defender and was responsible for the legal and trial skills training of over 200 attorneys in New Mexico. Mr. Porter conducted over 100 training sessions for lawyers on New Mexico law and enforcing the New Mexico constitution.

In 2015, Mr. Porter along with Susan Burgess Farrell, opened Burgess and Porter Law, LLC. The guiding philosophy of Burgess and Porter Law is to provide assertive legal representation of the highest quality in order to bring forth a winning result for every client.

Susan Burgess-Farrell has over 24 years of experience winning in court for her clients.

Susan L. Burgess-Farrell is a graduate from the prestigious University of New Hampshire Law School.  She began her legal practice when she won a prominent position with the Legal Aid Society in Manhattan, New York City, handling criminal defense cases.  In New York City, Ms. Burgess-Farrell gained extensive experience in criminal trials and in litigating constitutional law issues in cases from low-level felonies up to homicides.

In 1997, Ms. Burgess Farrell began defending clients charged with felony offenses in New Mexico.  Through her successful trial work and adept management skills with the New Mexico Public Defender, she quickly rose in the ranks and ultimately supervised over 100 attorneys practicing criminal law.  In her leadership position, Ms. Burgess-Farrell worked closely with the judges of the Albuquerque metropolitan area, and developed a reputation as a zealous advocate for her clients.  During her leadership positions, Ms. Burgess-Farrell's caseload was composed of the most serious cases including child abuse, sexual assaults, drug trafficking and homicides.

Ms. Burgess-Farrell's involvement in the New Mexico criminal justice system also includes:
   - Adjunct Professor, University of New Mexico's School of Law, Criminal Law in Practice Court.
     2006-2014.
   - Bernalillo County Criminal Justice Review Commission.  2012-2014.
   - Member, New Mexico Commission on DNA Oversight.  2010-2014

In 2015, Ms. Burgess-Farrell partnered with her long-time colleague Barry Porter and opened Burgess and Porter Law, LLC. The primary focus of the law office is defending the constitutional rights of citizens in both criminal and civil courts. Dani Villarreal graduated magna cum laude from McDaniel College, located in Westminster, Maryland, earning a bachelor's degree in Communication and Art History. During her time at McDaniel College she studied abroad for two years at their campus in Budapest, Hungary, and completed the subsequent two years at their main campus in Maryland. She began her career as a legal assistant in 2009, and has worked in offices specializing in mass tort litigation, personal injury and criminal defense. Prior to working in law offices, she performed background checks for companies seeking pre-employment screening.  Outside of work, Dani enjoys participating in community theater and singing opera.
